LESSON #8:
When you’re preparing to enter a new culture or country, know that everyone already in your life — is a resource. Include them in your dream, and you will build a movement that makes them want to help. The second part of this lesson is to share your path with others. For years after I made this trip, I shared how I’d done it with others who wanted to follow. I spoke at journalism conferences, met for coffee with journalists and aid workers who wanted to cover or help in Afghanistan. This is part of building a network. Remember, as the world becomes more interconnected, the chances increase that someone in — or connected to your network — will have the answers you seek.
